The Trocadero Is Closing.

March 15, 2019 by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer

I just heard the very sad news that the Trocadero in Philadelphia is closing soon. I haven’t been there since some time in the 90s, but it’s vivid in my memory and has a special place in my heart. One (actually 2, we did it twice) of my very favorite Y’all gigs was taking part in the Big Mess Cabaret, a sort of neo-vaudeville burlesque evening of music, variety acts/performance art, and strippers. We had never felt so understood by an audience.

The Troc is the archetypal decaying turn of the 20th century burlesque/minstrel/vaudeville theater turned movie house turned rock club. The Troc has always been my model for the ideal venue for LIZZIE.

Y'all sing "You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man" and "The Egg Man" in the Big Mess Cabaret at the Trocadero, Philadelphia, 1995(?). Definitely in our top 5 favorite gigs ever. Great audience!
Y'all sing "I Got a Dime" and "My Man, Our Horses, and Me" in the Big Mess Cabaret at the Trocadero, Philadelphia, 1995(?). Definitely in our top 5 favorite gigs ever. Great audience!
